El regreso: history of a great collective dream

Many of you know Costa Rica as a tourist destination, other, more reductively, as a third world country, or perhaps as a producer of coffee. But these days the Costa Rica is doing to talk about themselves (primarily the Internet) through an initiative of Crowdfundraising (= mass generated through fundraising and social networking) where the protagonist is a young director / actor in San Jose and its second feature: El Regreso (The Return).

Hernan Jimenez, is the name of the director, has produced its first feature (A ojos cerrados - With closed eyes) with a very low budget, thanks to the gains already collected as an actor and scraped together funds from friends and relatives, and finally with the support of a cultural foundation that he wanted to believe. With this film, winner of several awards at home, earned $ 40,000 with which he began to turn El Regreso. But money is not enough to finish the movie even for a man who gives up eating and recruit non-professional actors and unknown, and so on the day of S. Valentino, Hernan relies site Kickstarter to launch a video call and collect at least another $ 40,000, those necessary to post-production (in reality it would be the target of 60,000). The bombshell

hours bouncing between the media and that has surprised, among the first to own the initiative, is that money has already been collected in full (in just 5 days!) and as I write has already reached the threshold of $ 43,000 with more than 1,300 supporters. This is an unprecedented record for such initiatives and is certainly more than the public interest in a story well told. As stated by the same Jiménez, the unexpected result should be interpreted primarily as an act of 'political', ie as a public stance against a film free from political and commercial interference. It 'an act of love and solidarity towards a cohesive and well-assorted group of artists who wish to further their work with honesty and professionalism with great commitment and passion.

Look the video and comment, please. Personally I could not help but be enchanted and I have offered my own small contribution (you can participate with only a € thanks to the circuit's secure payment via credit card from Amazon) as a 'backer' number 421. I hope some of you there is another new supporter, but I urge you to at least spread the voice.

Pura Vida!
