Historical research on the Aleuts and their two Baidarka

map with the natural habitat of the Aleut populations: the archipelago of the Aleutian Islands, Alaska and the tip of the peninsula

The first inhabitants of this area probably came from nearby Asia 6000 years ago when the Bering Strait linking the two continents through a narrow stretch of land. Finally, morphological changes have created an immense archipelago known as the Aleutian Islands with more than three hundred, stretching for over 2000km, taking the form of an arch, dividing the northern hemisphere with the Western Bering Sea and south of the ocean peaceful.
The Aleutian island chain as a result of heat exchange of the two oceans is the birthplace of terrible storms at sea affecting the entire west coast of Canada and the United States, the winds that are produced, creating the giant waves, which marine areas are one of the hardest and most dangerous to navigation of the entire planet.
The reason, of course, that led to the Aleut sneak up and live in one of the most inhospitable places on the planet, is that they have had the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of a marine environment is very rich in mammals (whales, seals, sea lions , otters, etc..) and fish and shellfish. This abundance of food has allowed the people Aleut growth population up to in 1700 to more than 16,000 people, which is extremely exceptional, considering that we are talking about a hunting people, in a sub arctic. The Aleut
as well as the Inuit of Greenland, have been able to live and survive at these latitudes, developing, techniques of hunting in the sea very sophisticated, on board of small boats that were built to form and use, specifications of their hunter.
The Aleuts, unlike the Inuit, the sailors were exceptional, they could paddle up to eighteen twenty hours without stopping and their sense of direction was equally remarkable. This allowed them to travel or hunt in these regions so confusing, where tides, strong winds, wave motion and the perpetual fog were the conditions of normality.
